Get Involved & join in helping the campaign
We're a small group (approx. 12) Bishopston/Horfield/Ashley Down residents who have got together to oppose the proposed supermarket development on Gloucester Road.
We've been meeting for the past 18 months and have worked hard campaigning to save the eclectic mix of shops, cafes and bars that currently provide an atmosphere that's unique not only in Bristol, but in England as a whole. Although we may have won the battle we need more help in winning the war!
Have you skills, knowledge or even your time, that you could give in assisting the campaign in going forward?
Whilst we have a mixed variety of skilled individuals who have come together, and worked together, over the past year and a half, we are always welcome to more members of the public joining in in developing and mobilising the campaign.
- We always need help in delivering leaflets to the 7,000 homes in the area & running street stalls on Glos Rd.
- We always benefit from knowledge being shared.
- We invite any member of the public with skills, knowledge or time to get involved.
If you can help in the campaign, no matter how big or small, please email us on: info@bogofs.org. Please title your email 'Volunteer offer'.
We welcome any help that you can provide in the fight to prevent this development from going ahead.
We look forward to hearing from you all!
Our Mission Statement:
"To actively preserve the unique and independent nature of commerce on and around Gloucester Road, and oppose any development which endangers both this and the local environment."
Our Campaign & what we know
BOGOFS stands for Bishopston Opposing Glut OF Supermarkets. We'd like to establish what we do and don't know about the proposed development.
- An application for the development of the Gloucester Road/Ashley Down Road site is proposed, and importantly, has been formally submitted & refused.
- The proposed development application was submitted by a company called Storegap Commercial.
- Surrey based developer Storegap Commercial has bought parts of the site and plans to build a supermarket with a sales area of 20,000 sq ft (including 'sales' and 'non-sales' sections, which means grocery and electrical/hard goods) and 150+ car parking spaces.

Public Donations
BOGOFS Campaign runs on a very tight budget and relies solely on public donations.
Through 2006-7 we raised a fair amount of money - but this has now been spent on promotions such as leaflet drops, flyers, street stall info, publications and so on …
If you would like to support the campaign and make a donation, please make cheques out to 'BOGOFS' and send to:
