Raising Awareness in the Community

A campaign like ours has to find
as many ways as possible to communicate ideas and information. So
far, we have relied mainly on regular meetings and our website,
interspersed with leafleting and media coverage. The minute the
idea of a street stall was mentioned, it seemed obvious, in the
way that good ideas often do. This suited BOGOFS, the people and
our campaign perfectly.
A table, a good supply of promotional
items, such as stickers, badges, informative literature and, crucially,
a map showing the proposed site, were all we needed to attract and
sustain interest for six hours on a busy Gloucester Road Saturday.
The dynamic cast of campaign coordinators, friends and family kept
the whole thing lively. This light-hearted mood helped the delivery
of our essentially serious message. People stopped. They looked,
listened and asked plenty of questions. We encountered a wide range
of opinion from a good cross-section of the Bristol public.
BOGOFS is no longer just confined
to our website and meetings. We have started to have a real presence
in the community that is at the heart of our campaign. Now, we are
engaging in a different way. In the process, we’ve had a real
boost from knowing that people do care and are prepared to give
us their support. Thanks to everyone who helped and showed an interest. (Pictures thanks to Paddy Uglow).
